I haven’t been in my field of work for decades but from what I’ve observed, dealing with dysfunctional people on a daily basis makes you more susceptible to unhealthy coping skills. I know everyone talks about exercise and spending time with family but for real–who really does that? It’s a great thought but I’ve noticed that alcohol and cigarettes seem to be the coping skill or choice. Both aren’t the greatest choice but they can be used in a way that helps you function normally. You can forget about how f***** up the world really is for a bit and intentionally distract yourself.
